In a sport that has produced countless legends, Gene Cook stood apart. A household name in Australian speedway throughout the 1970s and ’80s, Gene was a fierce competitor, a brilliant engineer, and a fan favourite whose legacy still echoes to this day at Carrick Speedway. From his early days at Longford to his foray into speedway commencing at his home track Carrick to multiple championships and total domination of the Marlboro Grand National in NSW and the Tasmanian Grand Prix, Gene’s name is etched into the very soul of our sport.
To honour his extraordinary career, we are proud to present the Inaugural Gene Cook Memorial, a marquee Super Sedan event with $10,000 to win and prize money paid down to 20th place. This two-night spectacle will attract the best drivers from across the country and promises to be a highlight of the national speedway calendar.
We have developed a Unique Format to create a Legendary Tribute.
In a nod to Gene’s iconic racing numbers, heats will be contested over 13 laps, with the feature race stretching to 41 laps – a symbolic and emotional tribute to the man himself.
